on the off-chance this isn’t a bot that flagged my account because i posted that i won’t vote for biden, i wanted to clarify that i purposefully will be abstaining from voting, not just voting for someone else, in the 2024 election for a few reasons.

for one, i live in california. in los angeles county. we will be a blue county regardless of my vote, including my district. my abstention will have no effect on the outcome of the election. i would have otherwise held my nose and voted for biden again, but the point is that he lost my, and many other of my peers, votes, through intentional inaction in the face of genocide. to vote for another candidate would just be stepping on a different rake.

secondly, i am a progressive, but also understand how politics really works in terms of parties. voting anything other than democrat or republican is in practice casting a symbolic vote. there is no near future where any other party gains any degree of power in our government, by design. the last time there was a powerful third party to vote for in this country was a good 25 presidencies ago. when the upcoming election will be between someone who has enthusiastically and emphatically positioned the force of an empire against a people suffering a genocide against the will of the empire’s citizens, and a bumbling fool who is ready, willing, and eager to fully embrace fascism and punish political enemies, where both candidates are so reprehensible and morally bankrupt, to vote for either or even participate in the system that enabled them would be such a betrayal of every value i hold close that i could not and will not, especially when my vote would be in effect meaningless otherwise.

people can do as they wish, but i will not play a part in any of it.

and as a side, palestine will be free, but it will not be because of whatever american politicians do, it will be in spite of what they do.

basically, their plan is :

- you're not paid for the first three days of your sick leave (which is already the case in several admins and it was proved that it doesn't significantly decrease the number of sick leave. it just makes them longer bc people would rather have one really sick leave than several and risk not getting paid for several days, several times)

- you're only paid at 90% for the rest of your sick leave

It's important to remember who our really enemies are but I genuinely am starting to get pissed with how many leftists I've seen on other sites gleefully mocking minorities who voted for Trump when they post about how scared they are. Like yeah I get it you're mad at them, I am too, but responding to that video of that latina woman sobbing because she's terrified of being deported with "lmao you deserve this have fun when ICE gets you" isn't okay, actually.

Like I cannot stress enough that no one fucking deserves that. No one. Not even the people who voted for Trump. You should never take vicarious joy in watching minorities, or anyone honestly, suffer horrific violence ffs deciding that some people are exempt from having human rights is the logic of the enemy, it's not suddenly okay when it's aimed at people you hate.

The lack of compassion is legit concerning. For the love of god remember who the fuck your real enemies are and stick to your goddamn morals even when it's not fun. I don't want to associate with these people either but I know the right thing to do is protect vulnerable people from fucking ICE so I'm going to do it. Ask yourself why it's so easy for you to set aside your beliefs the second they're tested.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been spending the whole day trying to be strong for others and trying my damnedest to focus on the positive aspects of the elections (first trans Congress member, first senate with two black women, etc.) and the blatant facts of the US political system (the fact that Trump, regardless of what he says, can't just do whatever he wants), but the more I interact with the hopelessness that my loved ones and others are feeling, the more I just find myself being slowly pulled into the void.

Nihilism is probably the worst trap to fall into at this time, and it's the hardest to avoid. It's vital that we don't allow ourselves to get sucked into it. But god damn, some people are just really convincing.

KOSA is becoming a bigger and bigger threat

if trump get elected, there's an almost 100% chance that KOSA will be passed in 2025.

KOSA is a mass censorship bill that will allow the government to not show certain things online, saying its to 'protect kids'.

the things they want to "protect" kids from include LGBT, reproductive healthcare resources, and resources for marginalized groups. but really they'll just censor whatever they want. including information about whats currently happening in the middle east.

(i do NOT have any solid proof for what I'm about to say, so please, unless you can find hard information about it, don't take it as fact: i think that twitter only letting people see ~500 tweets per day is in a similar vain to KOSA. i heard someone say that the reason this change was made was to leave people uninformed for when the time comes to vote. I've also noticed social media sites getting...stricter? over just the past year and a half or so)

parents will also be given access to their childs search history, which could put the child in danger if they don't live in an accepting household. these children wont be left with any safe online places to go.

not only that, if this bill passes, your data will no longer be encrypted!!

even though this bill is targeting kids, this will effect adults too. if you want to use a social media sight, not posting on it just to use it, you will have to dox yourself by uploading your ID online. for everyone to see.

what can you do to help?

call and email your senators. the combination of both will yield the best results. email your senator multiple times. its very common for them to not pay attention to things like this unless they're being bombarded.

signing petitions, telling friends and family, spreading the word. i will have some linked here on the post, as well as some sources that will go more in depth than i did.
